When would you place a trauma splint?

A

When a child’s adult tooth has been avulsed

How do you store a tooth before taking it to be splinted?

A

Store in fresh cold milk or saliva

Do not handle or touch the root

Can hold by the crown and wash away root debris for 10s under cold water

Re-implant as fast as possible

Do not let it dry out

What is the process of placing the splint?

A

1- re-implant tooth

2- use floss to determine length of the splint, then cut to length and bend to shape with Adam’s pliers

3- acid etch front of 3 teeth for 10s followed by prime and bond and light cure

4- place composite on front of three teeth then sink the wire into the composite

5- shape the composite round the wire, avoiding contact points of teeth and then cure

6- add thin layer of composite over the top of wire at blobs and cure
