How do you clean a bodily fluid spill that is not urine, sputum, vomit or faeces?

A

Place down chlorine releasing granules

Or

Paper towels followed by 10,000ppm sodium hypochlorite and dichloroisocyanurate for duration of 3 min or manufacturers instructions

Then remove paper towels and spillage and place into healthcare waste bag

Disinfect area with hot water and detergent along with paper towels

Dry area

Remove PPE and discard towels

How do you clean a bodily fluid spill of urine, sputum, vomit or faeces?

What is important about one?

A

Do not place chlorine directly onto urine as it will prod. Ammonia

Place down paper towels and wipe up spillage

Then disinfect with 1000ppm chlorine or detergent/chlorine mix. If URINE use GELLING AGENT

Three dispose of the paper towels and disinfect area with:

  • hot water and detergent mix

Dry area

Discard paper towels and PPE

Hand hygiene
