Oral Landmarks Flashcards
Name the maxillary oral landmarks
Maxillary tuberosity
Palatine fovea
Palatine raphe
Rugae area
Vibrating line
Incisive papilla
Hamular notch
What are the mandibular oral landmarks?
Pear shaped pad
Retromolar pad
Buccal shelf
Mylohyoid ridge
Mandibular tori
What is the incisive papilla?
Raised area of tissue above the central anteriors
What is the palatine raphe?
Line along centre of hard palate
What is the palatine fovea?
Two dots just behind VL, has a role in gag reflex
What is the vibrating line?
Junction between soft n hard palate
What is the Hamular notch?
Notch behind tuberosity at the junction of the maxilla and hamular process of sphenoid bone
What is the rugae area?
Wrinkles on the hard palate
What is the retromolar pad?
Elevation distal to 2nd molars, non keratinised part of the pear shaped pad
What is the pear shaped pad?
Scarring, keratinised tissue from extraction of the most distal molar
What is the mandibular tori?
Abnormal bony prominences under the tongue anterior lay either side of the lingual frenulum
What is the buccal shelf
Area between buccal frenulum and anterior border of the masseter
What is the mylohyoid ridge?
Ridge of bone lingual to lower 4/5 open lingual surface of mandible
