alexithymia and pathology
Alexithymia - inability ot ID or verbalize emotional states
increased acitivty of the autonomic nervous system, speciically HC and amygdala
PTSD dsm5
Expsosure to actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violence…could be direct, witness, learning
Presence fo intrusion symptoms after event
Avoidance of stimuli associated iwth event
Negatvie alterations in cognitions and mood associated with the events
Alterations in arousal and reactivity associated with events
Duration more than 1 month
CSI
PTSD Dissociative sx
Can have depersonalization or derealization
PTSD ddx, timeline, sx, good prognosis
HEad injry
1 week to 30 years after event
Flucutate
Rapid onset, short duration
PTSD tx
Emphaiss on support if recent..if past then pharm and psyco
SSRIs are first line
CBT/hpnosis
Acute stress disorder
Exposrue to actual or threatened death, etc.
Presence of mult sx from intrusion, negative mood, dissociation, avoidance3 and arousal
Duration is 3 days to 1 month

Adjustment disorder
Development of emotionla or behavioral sx in response to stressor within 3 mos of onset of stressor
Does not meet criteria for another disorder
Stops after 6 mos after stressor begins
Adjustments disorder txs and other things
Most well after 5 years
Antidepressants or anxiolyitcs may help
Tx mostly try to reduce stressor, enahnce coping
