How do you transport a casualty with a SKED?

A
  1. Prepare the SKED
    a. Remove from the litter pack and place on ground
    b. Unfasten retainer strap
    c. Step on foot end of SKED and unroll completely
    d. Bend SKED in half and back roll. Repeat on opposite end
  2. Place the casualty on SKED
    a. Place next to casualty (head end at head)
    b. Place straps under the SKED
    c. Log roll the casualty onto his side in a steady and even manner
    d. Slide the SKED as far under the casualty as possible
    e. Gently roll the casualty until lying on his back with litter beneath
    f. Slide casualty to middle keeping spinal column as straight as possible
  3. Secure the casualty to the SKED
    a. Pull out the straps from under the SKED
    b. Bring straps across the casualty
    c. Lift the sides of the SKED and fasten four cross straps to buckles
    d. Lift the foot portion of the SKED
    e. Feed foot straps over casualty’s lower extremities and through unused grommets
    f. Fasten the straps to the buckles
    g. Check to make sure casualty is secured

  1. Collect all applicable information needed for request
    a. grid coordinates of pick-up
    b. Radio frequency, call sign, suffix
    c. # of patients and precedence
    d. type of special equip needed
    e. # and type of patients (ambulatory vs. litter)
    f. Determine security of pick-up site (war); # and type of wounded (peace-time)
    g. How pick-up site will be marked
    h. Patient nationality and status
    i. NBC info
  2. Record using authorized brevity codes.
  3. Transmit within 25 seconds. Give clear statement of “I HAVE A MEDEVAC REQUEST” and end the transmission by stating “Over”
