Transpiration And Translocation Flashcards
1
Q
Transpiration
A
The movement of water from the root, up the plant, through the lignified cells of the xylem. Driven by evaporation of water through the stomata. Flow is only in one direction
2
Q
Translocation
A
The movement of sugars through the plant as sucrose, through the living sieve cells of the phloem. Flow is bidirectional
3
Q
Rate of transpiration
A
-higher light intensity = higher rate
-warmer temperature = higher rate
-high wind speed = higher rate
-high humidity = lower rate
