Regulating Glucose Flashcards
1
Q
Diabetes type 1
A
Pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin. Treat by injecting insulin
2
Q
Diabetes type 2
A
Cells become resistant to insulin. Treat with a healthy diet and and exercise
3
Q
Regulating glucose
A
Pancreas detects the rise in glucose concentration in the blood and increases secretion of insulin. Insulin binds to muscle and liver cells, stimulating them to take in some glucose from the blood. These cells store glucose as glycogen. When pancreas detects a low glucose concentration in the blood it will increase secretion of glucagon. Glucagon causes liver cells to convert glycogen to glucose and release it into the blood.
