Endocrine System Flashcards
Adrenalin (NOT A NEGATIVE FEEDBACK LOOP)
Adrenal gland
Adrenalin acts to increase heart rate so there is increased blood flow to the muscles. It also increases blood pressure and stimulates the release of glucose from glycogen. Increased oxygen and glucose allows for increased the rate of respiration to release energy for the muscles
Thyroxine
Thyroid gland
Low levels of thyroxine cause TRH to be produced in the hypothalamus. This causes TSH to be released from the pituitary gland. TSH causes the thyroid gland to produce thyroxine. When thyroxine levels are normal, thyroxine inhibits the release of TRH and production of TSH
Endocrine system
Made of glands that secrete hormones, which are passed into the bloodstream to spread around the body
Endocrine differences to the nervous system
-hormones travel through the blood, not as electrical impulses
-slow, not fast
Negative feedback
Restoration of systems to normal levels
