Training Methods Flashcards
Health related fitness components
Aerobic capacity Anaerobic capacity Muscular strength Muscular endurance Flexibility Body composition
Skill related fitness components
Muscular power Speed Agility Coordination Balance Reaction time
How can we gather data?
Heart rate monitors Gps Video (Eye in the sky) Observation Observation and statistics
Why would we conduct a fitness test
Determine strengths and weaknesses Establish a baseline Determine team positions Improve motivation Predict the potential of future performers
What needs to happen before testing occurs?
Informed consent
Medical questionnaire
How do we test power ?
Vertical jump test
Basketball throw
3 types of periodisation
Macro cycle - 12 months
Mesocycle - 3,6 weeks
Microcycle - 5,10 days
What is the difference between peaking and tapering
Peaking is bringing the body to an optimal level whereas tapering is the method used to bring the body to an optimal level by lowering the work load by about 50%
Types of circuit training
Fixed time
Fixed load
Individual
2 important factors in regards to speed
Stride length
Stride frequency
Types of stretching
Static
Dynamic
Ballistic
Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation
Static stretching
When a person stretches to a position and holds it for a prolonged period of time
Dynamic stretching
Moving a joint through its full range of motion in a controlled movement
Ballistic stretching
Similar to dynamic stretching but with a greater force so less controlled movement
Aerobic capacity
The total amount of work done by the aerobic energy systems
Anaerobic capacity
Total amount of work done by the anaerobic energy systems
Muscular strength
The maximal force that can be generated by a muscle or muscle group in one maximal effort
Muscular endurance
The ability of the muscle or muscle group to perform repeated contractions for an extended period of time
Flexibility
The capacity of a joint to move through its full range of motion, and reflects the ability of the muscles and connective tissue to stretch
Muscular power
The ability to exert a force rapidly, over a short period of time
Speed
How fast you can move your body or body part from one point to another
Agility
The ability to change direction rapidly and accurately
Coordination
The ability to use the body’s senses to execute motor skills smoothly and accurately
Balance
Maintaining equilibrium while stationary or moving
Reaction time
The time from the presentation of a stimulus to the onset of a response
Validity
The degree to which a test measures what it aims to
Reliability
The ability of a test to produce consistent, reliable results
