training Flashcards
What will professional performers, who train as much as possible, have to consider?
Periodisation
What is periodisation?
The different parts of a training program
Why is periodisation carried out?
To ensure that the performer is able to peak at the right time, usually to coincide with a major competition or tournament
What does the competitive year consist of?
- pre-season
- peak season
- post-season (or off-season)
What is the pre-season?
This is the time leading up to when the majority of the competition will take place
What happens during the pre-season?
It is a time of initial preparation, concentrating on fitness and even developing techniques specific to the activity
What is the peak season?
This is the main competitive period
What happens during the peak season?
There would need to be a concentration on skills, ongoing fitness sessions as well as taking part in the actual competition
What is the post-season (or off-season)?
This is mainly a period of rest and recovery
What happens during the post-season (or off-season)?
As well as rest and recovery, there is still a need to keep up levels of general fitness
What is general fitness?
A state of general good health and to be able to carry out activities at a relatively low level
Why is available time probably the most crucial factor for most performers?
Because they will only have a totally free choice of available time if they are professional
What is needed to become a better performer?
Time is needed to train
What is an example of an amateur performer finding it difficult to fit in their training?
Many swimmers have to train at their local pools very early in the morning, before the pool is open for public use
Why does the amount of money a performer have an effect on how often they can train?
More funding can mean more time, better training facilities and equipment, and even the possibility of hiring a specialist trainer or fitness coach
