How do competitive activities affect the levels of activity needed by the performer?
These require performers to be highly committed as they need to train to compete
How might performers show there commitment to a competitive activity?
They could have two training sessions in a week, which might be further broken down into fitness training and skill training, followed by a competitive match over the weekend
What are some examples where performers have to give up a large amount of their time for a fixture?
- cricketers might have to give up a whole day for any match they are involved in
- netball players may have to set aside a full day to travel to a game
What will a professional competitor do?
They will concentrate on their particular activity full time
What is meant by the term “competitive”?
An activity that involves some form of contest, rivalry or game
What is meant by the term “recreational”?
Any form of play, amusement or relaxation performed as games, sports or hobbies
Why are recreational activities less demanding than competitive activities?
These types of activity do not require any periods of special training or preparation
What is the only requirement of a recreational activity?
To take part in the activity for some length of time, and at a convenient time
What are some examples of performing at the top level in any given sport?
Area, county, or international
How can performance be an activity needs factor for someone who is performing at the top level of their sport?
The competitor would find that they have to dedicate a lot of time to being an active participant
How might age affect a person’s activity levels?
A younger person who is at school may have more leisure time to take part in an activity than an adult in a full time job
What affect do high levels of participation have on a performer?
This is likely to bring benefits:
• improved health
• enjoyment of the social aspect of taking part with other
• satisfaction of successful competition
How can the benefits of high levels of participation be maintained?
Only if the levels of participation are continued on a regular basis
What affect do low and infrequent levels of participation have on a performer?
These clearly have little or no positive affect
