The social perception has been raised through policies of inclusion to ensure that all people are catered for
What are the four categories of disability?
- Physical

How have sports been adapted?
- The Paralympics, which has 20 different events adapted for a range of disabled people
- Adapted sports
- Adapted equipment
- Disability classifications
What is an example of an adapted sport?
Wheelchair basketball, where the hoop heights are the same but some of the rules (such as travelling) are adapted
What is an example of an adapted equipment?
Footballs used for the blind and visually impaired, where there are ball-bearings in small compartments within the ball so that it is audible and its movement can be tracked
What is another example of an adapted equipment?
Specially designed and adapted wheelchairs are now available not only for basketball and athletics (where each distance event has different types), but also for fishing, hockey, tennis, and rugby
Why do disability classifications exist?
They exist for all activities, relating to the particular physical demands of that sport, so that competition is made fair

- Access
- Parking
- Provision
What do facilities have to do for the disabled, in terms of access?
Doors and doorways have to be wide enough to allow wheelchair access and ramps must be provided

Disabled bays must be marked and made available
What do facilities have to do for the disabled, in terms of provision?
Lifts must allow access to upper floors, disabled toilets must be provided, and there should be specific activities, clubs or classes that are particularly suited to the disabled
