They will set the scene for what is considered to be normal and acceptable within that culture

- Specific dress codes that require certain clothing to be worn
- Fasting
- Sabbath days
What can affect a Muslims performance when training and competing?
Fasting during the period of Ramadan
What do some devout Christians refuse to do?
They refuse to train or compete on Sundays as this conflicts with their religious belief
Who else sometimes refuses to compete at certain times?
Some Jewish faith performers
Why is the factor of gender often linked closely with religion?
Because many religions have strict guidelines that apply specifically to females
What do some women have to do to compete in their sport, due to their religion?
Some have to wear impratical clothing to conform with their country’s modesty laws
What do many females, living in cultures that have extreme religious views, find when they are training or competing in their own country?
That they are harassed by men, racially abused, whistled at and heckled
What sports would not be deemed appropriate for women to take part in?
Sports such as rugby and football, which have been introduced and developed in the UK comparitively recently
