A large hotel that offers extra facilities
What is a package holiday?
When all aspects of a holiday are included in one price
What is an all-inclusive holiday?
A hotel that offers everything you need
What are some reasons for an increase in tourism?
More income, transport, advertising, freedom, tourist facilities, range of holidays, leisure time, Also, some get paid holidays
What are reasons for growth in tourism in LEDCs?
New destinations, exchange rates, transports, security, ease of booking
What are some reasons for decline in tourism?
Terrorism, crime, natural disasters, war, economic problems
What are social advantages of tourism?
Protection of culture, paying to visit museums -> preserve whats there, historical ruins protected to attract them, create cross-country links, encourages education
What are economic advantages of tourism?
Jobs are created, workers and companies pay tax, people learn new skills, new equipment and tech, local infrastructure may be improved
What are environmental advantages of tourism?
National parks created
What are social disadvantages of tourism?
Greater congestion, increase in crimes, racial tensions
What are economic disadvantages of tourism?
Many jobs don’t go to locals, economic leakage to overseas, many jobs are seasonal, inflation, dependence on an industry, pressure on infrastructure
What are environmental disadvantages of tourism?
Destruction of forests and sand dunes, noise and light pollution can interfere with animals
What is a primary tourist resource?
Pre-existing attractions that weren’t specifically built for tourism e.g beaches
What is a secondary tourist resource?
Facilities built for tourism e.g hotels
What is a human attraction?
An attraction built or made by humans e.g churches
What is a physical attraction?
Natural attractions e.g rivers
What is a national park?
An area of land protected by the law
What is a honeypot?
A location that attracts lots of tourists
What is rural depopulation?
The movement of people out of the countryside
What is a service decline?
Reduction in the amount of services provided
What is sustainable tourism?
Tourism that is environmentally, economically and socially sustainable
What is ecotourism?
Holidays that involve eco-related activities
What is an ecological footprint?
Measure of your demand on earth’s resources
