  2. disoreder of collagen synthesis affecting bones and connective tissue
  3. can be AUTOSOMAL RECESSIVE or AUTOSOMAL DOMINATE depending on type

What is Cystic Fibrosis?

A
  • AUTOSOMAL RECESSIVE on chromosome #7
  • most common of teh life threatening diseases that are genetic
  • PROGRESSIVE AND TERMINAL
  • affects approx 1 in 2,500
  • disorder of the management of water and salts in the body. Secretions are thicker and sticker.
  • disorder of the exocrine glands
  • can be obstructive or suppurative
  • survival past 30 y.o. is unusual (now 40)
  • activity tolerance training required

What are the S/S of CF?

A
  1. History of cough
  2. thick, tenacious sputum
  3. reurrent pulmonary infection and recurrent bronchitis which progresses to pneumonia/bronchiectasis; cor pulmonale; exercise intolerance and fat in the stool
  4. pancreatic insufficiency
