- “twisted neck”
- contracture of SCM with head bending to affected side

What is osteogenesis imperfect?
A
- congenital and genetic - “brittle bone disease”
- disoreder of collagen synthesis affecting bones and connective tissue
- can be AUTOSOMAL RECESSIVE or AUTOSOMAL DOMINATE depending on type

- bone scans and radiographs
- hx of multiple fractures
- skeletal deformities

What is Cystic Fibrosis?
A
- AUTOSOMAL RECESSIVE on chromosome #7
- most common of teh life threatening diseases that are genetic
- PROGRESSIVE AND TERMINAL
- affects approx 1 in 2,500
- disorder of the management of water and salts in the body. Secretions are thicker and sticker.
- disorder of the exocrine glands
- can be obstructive or suppurative
- survival past 30 y.o. is unusual (now 40)
- activity tolerance training required

What are the S/S of CF?
A
- History of cough
- thick, tenacious sputum
- reurrent pulmonary infection and recurrent bronchitis which progresses to pneumonia/bronchiectasis; cor pulmonale; exercise intolerance and fat in the stool
- pancreatic insufficiency

What are the interventions of CF?
A
- postural drainage and chest PT
- antibiotics; medication
- low fat, high protein diet and vitamins
- lung transplant
