A

a group of conditions

17
Q

What is the etiology of myositis?

A
  1. viral
  2. bacterial
  3. parasitic agents
    - resulting inflammation can create functional limitations
18
Q

What are the clinical manifestation of myositis?

A
  1. related to inflammation
    - malaise
    - fever
    - muscle swelling
    - pain
    - tenderness
    - lethargy
  2. muscle weakness
  3. risk of muscle necrosis
  4. Possible dysphagia, vasculitis, raynaud’s phenomomenon, cardiomyopathy, pulmonary fibrosis, thickening of the skin
19
Q

What is the treatment for myositis?

A

immunosppressive therapy

  1. corticosteroids
  2. OT/PT- good contraction, watch for fatigue, teaching compensation techniques
