What is the Kingdom of God?
God’s authority or rule (not a place)

Steps of the kingdom of God (key beliefs)
1.-The kingdom of God began when Jesus was born
2.-Established through Jesus’ resurrection at the coming of the holy spirit
3.-it’s growing in the present day through Christians
4.- it will be completed at the end of time
The three signs of the kingdom?(3 values)
Justice - everyone treated fairly and equally
Peace - removal of tensions - now calm and quiet
Reconciliation - people who have broken apart come together
How did the pope show kingdom values(3 main values 1 example each)
Justice - when he was cardinal he lived in an apartment in a simple life rather than in the bishops palace
Peace - played a major role in 2014, restoring relations between cuba and usa
Reconciliation - every maundy Thursday he goes to a local prison and washes the feet of 12 prisoners including muslims (showing humility aswell)
How kingdom values are shown in christian vocations
Priesthood - make a vow of celibacy showing complete dedication to God. Life Based around serving others and take a vow of obedience to God.
Family life - love unites a family, parents are loving forgiving, fair and help to reconcile relations and teach their children kingdom values spreading the kingdom of God.
Monk/nun - life centres around prayer giving a sense of peace. Can show love through serving others like teaching or nurse care. Take vows of poverty,obedience and chastity showing dedication to kingdom values
3 beliefs on catholic teaching (magisterium)
- God loves all people (‘made in image of God’)
- Therefore catholics have a duty to help the weakest and poorest people in society - all are equal
- exploitation and greed leads to inequality

- means that the church needs lot’s of parts to function
- we personally make up Christ’s body - so we do his work with our bodies
What is CAFOD and 3 things they do
The official agency of rhe catholic church who provide emergency aid to help people become more self reliant by providing long term.
- provide irrigation schemes,education and healthcare
- provide emergency aid to areas where natural disasters or conflicts have occurred
- challenge national policies harming the lives of the poor like in relation to inequality of climate change
What is SVP and what do they do
Catholic Charity who puts their faith into action to tackle poverty in all it’s forms, giving help to those in need
- visit people in care homes,homes,prisons and hospital
- practical work like doing the shopping for the elderly
- special projects like soup runs for the homeless or offer free furniture
3 Beliefs about catholics believing life is a pilgrimage to heaven
- we will meet God when we die
- our daily actions help us progress on our journey
- the catholic church is the ‘pilgrim people of God’
3 points on the stations of the cross
- During lent, a token pilgrimage where they stop, listen to a reading and say a prayer
- form of dramatised prayer which helps the person feel closer to Jesus because they share in Jesus’ suffering
- their are 14 crosses that remind us what happened during Jesus’ journey to crucifixion
3 examples of station of the cross
Station 1: Jesus is condemned to death
Station 7: Jesus falls for the second time
Station 14: Jesus is buried
3 pilgrimage locations and it’s importance and reason to visit
Jerusalem - where Jesus died and can visit the tomb via dolorossa and visit to share in Jesus life + suffering and to renew faith + commitment to jesus
Rome - home of the Vatican where St Paul died and his tomb in the basilica and where the pope lives. Visit to show commitment in the catholic church and show unity with the pope and all catholics.
Lourdes - town where St Bernadette saw images of Mary with the water having healing powers. Visit to spend time in prayer with other christians and to make them more aware of their place in the church.
3 general reasons why Christians might go on a pilgrimage
- to renew their commitment to the church and God
- feel spiritually inspired
- to ask forgiveness for grave sins or normal sins
How mission and evangelism is shown in film
Les miserables - love shown through good actions influencing others to do the same and sometimes doing the right thing might involve ignoring church law and following conscience showing right attitude might be more important than followinf rules - the bishop urged valjean to use the stolen money for good who sets up a factory creating jobs for those who can’t get one
The mission - mission + evangelism requires total commitment to God even when facing hardship and better to follow conscience than law. - priests convert local population and are attacked, priests ordered to go home but stay and defend the people despite danger to their lives.
Steps of apostolic sucession
1.- pope + bishops are successors to Jesus’ 12 apostles
2.- Jesus have 12 apostles the authority to lead the church (apostolic authority) which is passed onto bishops today
3.-peters authority passed down to current pope(pontiff) so church is called pontifical
4.-combined authority of pope and bishop is the magisterium (guided by holy spirit)
5.- all authority lies with the pope and can call a teaching infallible(cannot be wrong)
Steps of saying church is concillar
1.- catholic church has authority + responsibility
2.- but the pope sometimes has meetings with bishops, by calling a council on issues affecting the whole church, so catholic church is conciliar
3.- this ensures the pope makes the best decisions for everyone
4.- this brings unity to the church
3 key documents from V2 and 3 points about them
Deji verbum - means the word of God, which deals with the importance and interpretation of the bible - says some parts should be taken literally while others shouldn’t
Lumen gentium - means on the church, and deals with nature/structure of the church - says all members have important roles to play and emphasises idea of a pilgrim church moving forwards within modern societyz
Gavdium et spes - means church in the modern world, and deals with issues related to modern society and stresses that the catholic church shouldn’t be separated from modern society but guide people on how to live in it.
What are marks?
Characteristics/qualities that are particular to the catholic church
What are the 4 marks of the catholic church with one point about each - (O,H,C,A)
One: the church is unified today
Holy: catholic church guided by the holy spirit
Catholic: means universal - catholic beliefs held worldwide
Apostolic: teaching based on teachings of the 12 apostles, their successors (bishops) guide the church today
Why is Mary so important to catholics today
Believe that Mary is the perfect disciple, shown in the magnificat a prayer she said when she was pregnant
3 points on the controversy of the magnificat
- encourages people to rebel against the government
- shows that God has brought down the powerful from their thrones and lifted up the lowly
- shows that God has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty
4 qualities of mary with explanation
Humility: recognises she’s special because of what God has donee for her (mother of the Jesus)
Praising Gods greatness: God had shown his love for all people, by doing great things for her and all of
humility and her whole prayer praises God over this
Accepting Gods will: willingly accepted role of mother of Jesus and the praise of God in her prayer confirms her readiness to follow Gods will
Trust in God: she was in danger of death (accused of adultery) but trusted God to protect her as she was following His will. Also believes that God will help people who are weak and poor.
