Before his ministry began
- 40 days in wilderness and tempted by devil 👿 three times

- > Jesus refused to give into this one cos u don’t just need physical food but spiritual fulfilment - Deut 8:3 ‘man must not depend on bread alone to sustain him, but on everything that the lord says’
What is the second temptation? (Describe + explain message w/ quote from Deut 6:16)
- Jumping from pinnacle of Temple in Jerusalem
- Ppl wld think he had superhuman powers ☄️
- Jesus replies ‘Do not put the lord your God to the test’ implying you shld have faith 🙏 in god without physical proof
What is the 3rd temptation? (Describe + explain message w/ quote from Deut 6:13)
- Power over all kingdoms if he worships devil
- Don’t worship anyone but God, greed is 🚫 don’t worship it -> faith in god > material desires
- Jesus replies w/ quote from Old Testament ‘fear the lord your God, worship only him’ (Deut 6:13)

Yes
How would liberals regard theses temptations?
- Metaphorical + symbolic (importance not in exact details)
- Could have been embellished
- Could have been a dream -> but doesn’t matter if didn’t actually happen
How is this relevant to Christians today? (Point about comfort)
- Find comfort -> jesus tempted as we are
- Did not give in to temptation
- Has gone thru similar feelings
How is this relevant to Christians today? (Point about god’s law)
- Shows jesus determined to live by god’s law
- Emphasises importance of reading bible (jesus keeps referring to Old Testament) + seeing that word of god can strengthen us in difficult times
What does lent show Christians about the significance of the temptations?
- Lent especially recognises Jesus’ humanity + how he had to go through difficulty like us
- Model to follow in times of difficult for Christians
What is the more liberal view on the significance of the temptations?
- See it as mental struggle
2. Jesus shows that even if they struggle with their faith 🙏 they will over come it
What do the temptations teach Christian’s?
- Jesus completely faithful to god = we have to be the same
- Material possessions not important -> following way of god is
- Shld only worship one true god
