- Moral guidance
Eg commandments, Jesus’ example - Comfort (to feel god is close to them)
Eg Jesus’ temptations (emphasises Jesus’ humanity)

Give some examples of what Christians might do in private worship…
A
- Daily bible reading time to grow closer to god
- Bible reading notes to focus on a set passage based on a theme, followed by a prayer
- Schemes that encourage reading the bible over the year
- Meditation -> reading slowly several times so meaning sinks in -> hope to sense inner guidance of god through reading scripture

A
- Old Testament reading
- New Testament reading
- gospel reading
- readings listed in lectionary (table of psalms + readings authorised for use in public worship by Anglican churches)

What happens during the sermon?
A
- builds on readings
- vicar might explain teaching / relate it to everyday life (point of sermon is to teach congreagation about what they just heard)
Eg if read Good Samaritan might preach about helping others

What stories are ceremonies like baptism + holy communion based on?
A
- baptism links to Jesus’ baptism
- holy communion + last supper in Luke 22

Do hymns + songs reflect bible teaching?
A
Yes eg the lord’s my shepherd has words from matt 25 , sheep + goats

What other ways can Christian’s educate themselves?
A
- Study groups
- Alpha courses (opportunity to learn about + discuss the faith)
- Sunday school ( bible is focus + used to help children understand basics of moral teachings in an accesssible way)
- Youth groups (engage young people in the faith, passage from bible will be studied)
- Classes (before people undertake ceremonies eg marriage, attend classes to increase their faith) bible will feature in the classes
