Topic 6 Motion Flashcards
What is distance ?
Distance tells us how far an object moves , does not involve direciotn .
-As it has magnitude and direction its a scalar quanitty .
(total distance travelled by car is 500m) .
What is displcement ?
Displacement tells us the distance an object moves in a striaght line , from start poin tto finish point .
Displacement must include the direcion of a straight like
(displcement was 380m East )
-Displacement is therefore a vector qunity as it ha smagnitude and direction .
-
Hwo do work out speed ?
Speed = disance /time
d/s*t triangle
speed =m/s
disance=m
time=s
(in physics symbol fro speed V ,, and symbol for distance is S) .
Some speeds you need to know .
Normal walking speed =1.5m/s
Runnign spped is 3m/s
cycling speed 6m/
squiggly line before as it roughly .
What are the factors that effect speed ?
-A fitter person generally ahcieves a faster spped than unfit person .
Terrain - move more rapidly on flat ground than a hill .
-Distance travellled a long distance runner running faster at the tired as they less tired .
More speeds you need to now
Car on mian road about 13m/s Fast train in Uk 50m/s Cdurising aeroplane 250m/s all roughly spped of sound 330m/s speed of sound faster on warmer days then on cooler dys .
Speed of object rarely constant , so we calculte average speed over total length of journey .
-if object moves in striaght line represented as a distance time hrapgh .
How do work out the speed of someone from a distance timegraph ?
Gradient of a graph is spped
gradient =disace travelled/time taken
Looka t example on shhet .
What about line upward in slope ?
Tells us this object is cosntanly acceralting .
How to determine spped of this ,
draww a tangne t, and work out gradient , change in y /change in x
What is the velocity of an object
-its spped in a given direction
(0bject dtraveling 20m/s just sayign speed)
-but if we say object is travelling 20m.s south stating itsvelocit
-includes magnitude and direction so i t vector .
how do you work out velocity .
Sma ea spped speed=distance/time bt also have direction too so south do quesiton in bookk
If an obbject is moving at a constant spped in a circle …
then its velocity is constanlty changing , eventhough its speed is constant . (Also includes objetcs moving in aprt of a circle (cornr).
What is the acceleratoin of an object ?
Acceleration of an oobject tells us is change in velocity over a given in time .unit is M/S SQUAREDDD
hOW DO YOU WORK OUT ACCLERATION
Accleration (m/s squared)=change in vlocity (m/s) /time taken(s)
Vchange in V /a*t TRIANGLE
Do quesiotn in sheet
Wat does gradient of a velocity of a time grpah tell us
acceleraiton of an object . Joriziontal line = consant velocioty upwards ccelration downwards decellertion CHECK IF IT VELOCITY TIME GRAPH FIRST ON Y AXIS
