TOPIC 5 Flashcards
what is mass density
is mass divided by its volume
Density depends on what
the individual atoms and molecules making up the object and how much space their is between them
what is specific gravity of an object or a material?
is the ratio of its density to the density of water.
why is water at 4 C the best
because that when the temperature is most dense.
how do you find density
mass if a substance divided by its volume.
Density is the amount of
mass in a certain substance
when comparing the Heaviness of substances the what is needed
the masses of equal volumes of those substances are needed
as density increases Buoyant force
increases
Can density be affected by heat
yes
Most fluids increase density as the temperature
decreases
what is an example where density is very important
marine fluid quality
how do you find the volume of an object
volume= Length ⨉ width ⨉ height
what is one way to determine the volume of an irregular object
is to measure its mass in the air and then in the water, subtract the second measurement from the first, and divide by the density of water.
show step by step how you determine the volume of an object that floats.
- attach a metal skier to the object.
- submerge the medal sinker and measure the over- flow
- Then submerge the object and measure the Toal overflow
- The volume of the object equals the different between the measurements
what is mass
is the amount of mater in a substance
