Autonomous Region
an area within a state that has been granted a large degree of self governance
Example: Aland, FInland
Multinational States
a state with multiple nations that have sought autonomy at some point
Example: Canada (Quebec), Israel (Palestinians)
Multistate Nation
a nation of people whose population is spread across multiple states
Example: The Kurds (Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Syria) Koreans (North and South)
Nation
a group of people who share a common heritage, homeland, values, and beliefs
Example: Native American tribes; Kurds
Nation-state
a state whose population is made up of mostly one particular nation or ethnic group
Example: Japan, Iceland
Semi-autonomous Region
an area within a state that has been granted some degree of self governance
Example: individual states in the USA; Quebec Canada
