why did Hitler need to abolish the SA
- loyal to Rohm and not to Hitler
- concerned that there would be a revolution from below in the nazi party so needed to show his power
- Rohm was a natural rebel and wasn’t scared to surprise against Hitler wasn’t fully loyal
- Rohn and Sa wanted ‘second revolution’
why was the night of long knives significant
- everyone was now frightened of Hitler so no one called him out for the murders.
- won the support of the elite and army as the Sa were a threat to the army’s power
- showed new state want a traditional and contrary to how he portrayed himself in 1933
- no one will try and overthrow him in party or public now
