  • loyal to Rohm and not to Hitler
  • concerned that there would be a revolution from below in the nazi party so needed to show his power
  • Rohm was a natural rebel and wasn’t scared to surprise against Hitler wasn’t fully loyal
  • Rohn and Sa wanted ‘second revolution’

  • everyone was now frightened of Hitler so no one called him out for the murders.
  • won the support of the elite and army as the Sa were a threat to the army’s power
  • showed new state want a traditional and contrary to how he portrayed himself in 1933
  • no one will try and overthrow him in party or public now
