Topic 3 - Particle Model of Matter Flashcards
What is internal energy?
The total energy particles have in their kinetic and potential energy stores.
What is it called when a solid turns into a gas, and when a gas turns into a solid?
- Sublimation
- Deposition
What does Specific latent heat of fusion mean?
The energy required to change 1kg of sollid to liquid or vice versa, without changing temperature.
What does specific latent heat of vapourisation mean?
The energy required to change 1kg of liquid into gas or vice versa, whithout changing temperature.
What is the equation linking Energy, mass and specific latent heat?
energy = mass x specific latent heat
E = m x Lf or Lv
How do gasses cause pressure?
Gas particles collide with the walls of the container, this creates a force at right angles to the surface.
What is Boyle’s Law
pressure x volume = constant
pV = constant
What is the relationship between pressure and volume?
They are inversely proportional.
