Q

What can happen when top-down processing is used?

A

It can reduce accuracy id analysis as cognitive bases can affect interpretation eg. Observer/expectancy bias, selective attention, conformity effect, need determination, perception or overconfidence bias

Q

What is need-determination perception/effect?

A

Desire to solve a particularly emotional crime may lead to high motivation to find a suspect and therefore errors being made about whether the print matches or not

Q

What is observer or expectancy bias?

A

When the expert expects there to be a match between prints because of information from an initial observer (eg. Police officer telling them they have a suspect who had been identified by a witness)
