Topic 14 Flashcards
How are optical images formed?
Diverging light rays crossing eachother after relaction/refractions
The crossing point is called the image
What is a real image?
An image where the image is where it seems to be
What is a virtual image?
An image where the obejct isn’t where it seems to be
The rays have been changed (E.g like with a mirror)
What is an object? What is a virtual object?
Most are real, the rays come from the location of the object.
Virtual objects occur in a multicomponent system, e.g Mirrors/lenses.
Describe the image formed by a plane mirror
The image is the point where the reflected light points at.
What are thin lenses?
Small thickness compared with radius
Divergin/converging
Converging → Thicker Centre
Diverging → Thicker outer parts
Describe the focal point of a lens
Focus of a converging lens is in front of it (Positive Value)
Diverging lenses’ focus is behind the lens where diverging rays should hit eachother. (Negative Value)
Give the lensmaker’s Equation
