Jesus teaches that obedience to the law comes from a persons heart. He looks at how what a person is thinking is as bad as the actions that we see a person do

In this section of the sermon on the mount Jesus focuses on what it means to be a true follower
Jesus wants fasting and charity private
Wants prayers to be straight and to the point not ornate and complicated because such things will not make a person more spiritual

In this section Jesus requires his followers to take seriously their commitment to the faith. He wants them to have faith that god will provide
He wants them to know that a person can worship God and money

Jesus wants people to know that no one is in the position to judge people and if they do God will do the same. People should focus on becoming more obedient and closer to God
