Titrations Flashcards
1
Q
What is the aim
A
To find out how much hydrochloric acid is needed to neutralise 20cm3 of a sodium hydroxide solution of an unknown concentration.
2
Q
Explain how to do the experiment - 6 steps
A
- Use the pipette to get 20cm3 of an alkaline. Add to a conical flask.
- Add the indicator and place on a white tile.
- Fill the burette with a acid and take note of the starting volume.
- Slowly add to the alkaline, swirling until it turns white.
- Note the final volume and repeat until you have 2 that are at most 0.2 cm2 apart.
- Complete the titration calculations.
3
Q
what is a standard solution
A
A solution of an accurately known concentration
4
Q
What is the meniscus
A
The bottom of the bend of the solution that hits the line
