Titration Flashcards
Practical
What is considered inaccurate titration results?
Any result more than 0.2cm^3 away from each other
Suitable indicator for titration
Methyl orange
During titration where acid is in burette and alkali is in conical flaskwhen methyl orange changes from:
yellow -> orange
orange -> red
what does it mean for the solution?
yellow -> orange
- exact vol. of acid needed, react completely w/ alkali reached
orange -> red
- excess acid added
why is white tile placed at base of retort stand?
- so that colour change can be seen clearly
why is burette jet below top of conical flask?
- prevent spillage of acid during titration
No marks if never write “during titration” as acid does not spill on it’s own
when to 3sf?
when to 2dp?
- 2dp for burette reading/titration result
- 3sf at all other cases
why cannot use universal indicator, but use methyl orange? (for titration)
- Universal Indicator too many colour changes
- Methyl orange ROY
- colour change clear, easier to see
imagine a titration setup w/ all apparatus labelled
