Tissues Quiz Flashcards
What are tissues?
A group of cells with similar structure and function
What are the four main type of tissues?
Epithelium
Connective
Muscle
Nerve
What is the function of epithelium tissue? Where is it found?
Protection, absorption, secretion, excretion, reception, reproduction. It is found all over the body including lining internal organs and outer surface of the skin
What is the function of connective tissue?
Protection, support, binds together
What is the function of muscular tissue? Where is it found?
Produces motion by contracting and generates heat. It is found in parts of the body where movement is under conscious control.
What is the function of nervous tissue?
Conducts impulses all over the body. Carries nerve impulses all over the body
What is the difference between exocrine and endocrine glands? What are some examples of them?
Exocrine- Have ducts and secrete onto the surface. Sweat glands and salivary glands
Endocrine- Do not have ducts and secrete into the blood stream. Found by the capillary bed. Pituitary (hypophysis), thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and pineal glands
What is a histologist?
Person who studies tissue
What type of tissue forms membranes?
Epithelium
What type of tissue allows for movement of limbs and for organ movements within the body?
Muscle
What type of tissue uses electochemical signals to carry out its functions?
Nerve
What type of tissue supports and reinforces body organs?
Connective
What type of tissue’s cells have the ability to absorb and/or secrete substances?
Epithelium
What type of tissue is the basis of the major controlling system of the body?
Nervous
What type of tissue’s cells shorten to exert force?
Muscle
