Tissues Flashcards
1
Q
Define tissue
A
A group of similar cells that are specialized for a particular function
2
Q
4 basic tissue types
A
- Epithelial
- Connective
- Muscle
- Nervous
3
Q
Epithelial tissue
A
- Covers and lines organs and body cavities
- little matrix, very closely joined together
- smooth surface
- classified by its varying shape
4
Q
6 places you would find epithelial tissue
A
- heart
- kidneys
- intestines
- liver
- lungs
- stomach
(all have inside and outside lining)
5
Q
Ciliated epithelial
A
found in the respiratory system and moves foreign particles up away from lungs
6
Q
Connective tissue
A
- Protects, binds and supports other tissue
- Matrix of blood called plasma
- Large matrix, not very close
7
Q
6 places you would find connective tissue:
A
- blood
- adipose tissue (fat)
- cartilage
- ligaments
- tendons
- bones
8
Q
Muscle tissue
A
- Movement
- Long thin cells known as fibres
- Able to contract
9
Q
3 types of muscle tissue
A
Skeletal - voluntary (striated)
Smooth - involuntary (non-striated)
Cardiac - involuntary
10
Q
Nervous tissue
A
- Transmits impulses that are specialised for a particular function
- made of neurones
11
Q
Where is nervous tissue found?
A
- Brian
- Spinal column
- Nerves
