tissues Flashcards
describe epithelial tissues
covers the whole surface of the inner and outer body made up of closely packed cells arranged in layers to form the covering and lining of all the internal and external body surfaces
what is the function of epithelial tissues
protective and secretory function
what is the basement membrane made of
collagen and protein
what do squamous cells make up
the alveoli in the lungs
where are the cubodial epithelium found
lines kidney tubules, liver and ureter
where is the columnar epithelium found
respiratory tract, bronchi, bronchioles and fallopian tuves
what does statified mean
in layers groups
what are the three types of muscles tissue
skeletal, smooth and cardiac
describe skeletal muscle tissue
causes movement and is a VOLUNTARY muscles
striated (more powerful)
describe smooth tissue
individual spindle shapes cells that contract rhythmically less powerful as they are unstriated so you can’t control it
describe cardiac muscles
only found in the heart structure and properties are between smooth and skeletal muscle
cardiac muscle does not tire and it is straited
what does connective tissues do
connects supports and seperates
how is connective tissues made up
collagen and elastic fibres in an extracellular matrix
what is a liquid matrix (give an example)
a matrix in liquid
blood
give examples of solid connective tissues
cartilage and ligaments
