Tissue injury and repair management I Flashcards
Strain?
Over: stretching, exertion, or use of soft tissue. Less severe than a sprain.
Sprain?
Severe stress, stretch, or tear of sof tissue.
1ar dgr sprain?
1st: Mild pain c/in 24 hrs, pain on use swelling, and local tenderness.
2nd dgr sprain?
Moderate pain, activity stopped, Tender on palpation and use. Some fibers can be torn/some > mobility.
3rd dgr sprain?
Complete/near complete tear/avulsion. Severe pain. 0 pain on palpation. Jt instability.
Subluxation?
Incomplete dislocation (gapping of glenohumeral jctn=sign of sblx in that jt).
Ganglion cyst?
Ballooning of jt wall capsule, or tendon sheath.
Bursitis?
Inflammation of a bursa.
Contusion?
Bruise.
Dysfunction?
Loss of normal function. Can be caused by adhesions or contractures.
Contracture?
Adaptive shortening of soft tissue that limits the mobility of a jt.
How long can RMG take to resolve?
Up to 2 wks.
Mm setting?
Isometric contractions used to reset the tone of a mm.
Myofascial compartment syndrome?
When fluid is caught in one of the compartments between mms that compromises blood vessels or nerves. Ischemia and muscle function loss.
Intrinsic mm spasm?
Continued mm spasm in reaction to local metabolic or circulatory changes.
