Time Critical Guidelines Flashcards
Define actual time criticality
At the time of assessment/vital sign survey the patient is in actual physiological distress
Define Emergent under the TCG?
At the time of the vital sign survey the patient is not in actual physiological distress, however they have a pattern of injury or medical condition that has a high probability of deterioration into actual physiological distress
Describe potential under the TCG?
At the time of the vital sign survey the patient is not in actual physiological distress and doesn’t have a serious pattern of injury/illness, however there is a mechanism of injury that has a high probability of deterioration into actual physiological distress
What are the Co-Morbidities for MOI that constitute time criticality?
- Obesity
- Poorly controlled hypertension
- Diabetes
- Ischemic heart disease
- Chronic liver/renal failure
- Symptomatic COPD
- Controlled or uncontrolled CFF
What are the Actual time critical criteria?
HR- >120 or <60 RR >30 or <10 SPO2 >90% on O2 GCS >13 or >15 for 15 years and under BP >90
what are the emergent time critical guideline criteria?
- Penetrating injury: except isolated superficial limb injury
- Blunt Injuries: serious to one region that requires specialised care/intervention or to multiple body parts, or that constitute a threat to a limb or quality of life.
- Specific injuries: Spinal injury, burns >15% TBSA, High voltage burns, pelvic fracture, fracture 2 or more long bones, amputation, major compound/open fracture, serious crush.
What are the Potential TCG criteria?
- Pedestrian impact
- MVA greater than 60km/h
- Cyclist accident greater than 30km/h
- fall from height >3m
- Object strikes head from >3m
- Explosion
- Ejection from a car
- Prolonged extriction
Plus co-morbidity: lines/disease and age <15 or >55

Children up to which age are transported to a children’s facility?
Up to and including 15
If a patient has a fall from standing height, is in a metropolitan region and is >55 where should they be take?
To a neurological facility.
