- Extraocular muscles of eye affected due to thyroid hormone dysregulation
- Retro-orbital inflammation and lymphocyte infiltration results in swelling of orbit

- Eye discomfort
- Grittiness
- Increase tear production
- Photophobia
- Decreased acuity

- Exophthalmos
- Conjunctival oedema
- Corneal ulceration
- Papillodeomea

What investigations may you do for thyroid eye disease?
A
- Clinical diagnosis
- CT, MRI or orbit may reveal enlarged eye muscle

What is the lifestyle changes for managing thyroid eye disease?
A
- Treat hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism
- Stop smoking
- Sunglasses, avoid dust

What are the medical management of thyroid eye disease?
A
- Frensel prism to manage diplopia
- Severe: high dose steroids e.g. IV methylprednisolone
- Surgical decompression
- Eventually Anti-TNFalpha antibodies e.g. infliximab
