Thoracic anatomy and function T6-T9 Flashcards
What is the ascending aorta?
first part of the aorta that carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the aorta
What is the descending aorta?
where the arch of the aorta ends, it carries blood to the thorax and abdomen
What are the main bronchus
a large airway leading from the trachea to the lungs
The right is a short wide air passageway into your right lung. The left is a narrow long passageway into your left
What is the right atrium?
the chamber of the heart where deoxygenated blood enters through the inferior and superior vena cava
What is the left atrium?
the chamber of the heart that receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and empties it into the left ventricle to be pumped around the body
What is the auricle of the left atrium?
collects oxygenated blood as it leaves the lungs and makes it’s way into the left ventricle
What is the interventricular septum?
a triangular wall of the cardiac tissue that separates the left and right ventricles of the heart
What is the right ventricle?
the chamber of the heart that pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs
What is the left ventricle?
the chamber of the heart that pumps oxygenated blood to body.
What is the inferior vena cava?
carries blood from the legs, feet and organs in the abdomen and pelvis back to the heart.
What is the coronary sinus?
a collection of small veins that merge to form a large vessel that collects blood from the heart muscle and return it to the right atrium for oxygenation
What are fissures?
structures separating the lobes of the lung.
oblique fissure separate the upper and lower lobes of the lungs
horizontal fissures separate the upper lobe from the middle lobe
