Thoracic anatomy and function T3-T5 Flashcards
What are brachiocephalic veins?
large veins located in the thorax that join to form the superior vena cava. They originate from the union of the subclavion vein with the internal jugular vein
What is the brachiocephalic trunk?
it consists of arteries coming from the aorta in the mediastinum. It supplies blood to the right arm, head and neck.
What is the Trachea?
the airway that leads from the larynx (voice box) to the bronchi (large airways leading to the lungs)
What is the left common carotid artery?
large elastic artery providing the main blood supply to the head and neck
What is the superior vena cava?
it carries blood from the upper body returning it to the right atrium
What is the arch of aorta?
top part of main artery carrying blood away from the heart
What are the superior pulmonary veins?
they are located above and below the pulmonary arteries. They collect oxygenated blood and carry it from the lungs back to heart
What is the pulmonary trunk
a short artery transporting deoxygenated blood from the heart towards the lungs
What are the pulmonary arteries?
artery in the pulmonary circulation carrying deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs
