Thermoregulation Flashcards
How does Thermoregulation work?
Works in the hypothalamus in the brain which monitors temp of blood using thermoreceptors
It then sends signals via neurones to organs to bring temp back down to normal temp
What is Thermoregulation?
Homeostasis- maintaining a constant internal environment despite a changing external environment
What ways does the body control temp?
Sweating increasing -onto surface of skin and evaporate and takes heat from skin
Shivering - muscles contract and do more respiration, releases energy
VASODILATION -Controlling amount of blood on the surface - carry more blood up capillaries, widen arteriole and lose heat by radiation from surface
Is vasoconstriction for hot/cold conditions?
Cold
What is vasoconstriction?
Reduce blood flow by contracting arteriole carrying blood to capillary
Reduce heat loss, raising temp
What’s another way of the body keeping warm?
Hairs going up, traps air and insulates
