Thermal - Multi Product - Measuring Flashcards
Thermal
Thermal image - red and green areas
Red=gain and lose the most amount of energy
40/40/20 rule - 40% energy gain and loss from attic, 40% from windows and doors, 20% from walls
Nothing to do about walls so we focus on the other 80%
So what are your energy bills like in the summer and winter?
Are you okay with us helping you out with that a bit?
Cost of Energy
Reason I bring up energy is because it has been drastically on the rise
Electricity has gone up 24% in two years, natural gas gone up 76%
We can’t control the cost of it, but we can control the use of energy
Energy costs getting out of hand so government started giving tax credits - $250 per door (up to $500) and $1,200 for attic insulation
While I’m here I’ll see if you qualify
Likes vs dislikes for their windows
Before I start measuring, odd question but what do you like about your windows?
- bring up natural light,
- bring up grids preference
- bring up HOA, are they strict?
Then make recommendation of the window color/style I suggest
Then bring up dislikes
-does it get hot in certain part of house/at certain time of day?
-ask how long they have noticed the issues
-make sure to keep asking for dislikes until they tell you everything (ammo for later)
Why people replace their windows?
Functionality - locking, operating, etc
Aesthetics - curb appeal, how they look
Maintenance- painting, caulking, cleaning
Energy efficiency- bring up how much they pay for their monthly bill here during summer/winter
Stock vs Custom
These two windows look the same right? They are actually a little different (one 1/4” taller, one 1/2” wider)
Two different kind of windows in the industry, stock and custom
Stock = great for new builds, mass produced, bought off shelf
For new builds they fit perfectly every time
Problem becomes when your house shifts and settles over time they no longer fit well
If too big = rip out drywall or shave down studs
If too small = shim around and pack in window, losing natural light
Stock window is not wrong, it’s just not right for your house in its life cycle
We do custom windows so we measure everything down to a 1/4” = perfect fit every time
Easier to make window fit your house than your house to fit a window
Did I explain everything okay?
