Q

Install cut and caulk steps

A
  1. Bust out the glass
  2. Yank out the frame
  3. Slap in the new window from the outside
  4. Lean out and toenail screw at an angle hoping to hit a stud, basically screwing in blindly
  5. Slab a thick bead of caulk and call it a day

Q

Problems with cut and caulk

A

Caulk is designed for interior use, like kitchens and bathrooms.

It’s not designed for exterior use so it fades, cracks and breaks down over time

So once that caulk breaks down, you are right back to where you started with water getting into your walls

Q

Our Pella certified method - how to remove the windows

A
  1. Lay drop cloths all around the interior and exterior of your home, treating your house like a home and not a construction site
  2. Controlled glass removal by scoring it piece by piece to the outside
  3. Clip the frame and remove all metal to the outside so no condensation can build up in your walls

Q

Exposing the weep space

A

This is the most vulnerable part of your home

This is where the jack studs, electrical and plumbing is located

This part is where the cut and caulk method fails because the only thing protecting the weep space is that bead of caulk that we know will fail over time

So when it fails you are right back to where you started

Q

Pella certified install - putting the windows in

A
  1. Build a custom capping and outside stop - which will double as a sill cover

This covers the weep space so no water, bugs, etc can get into the wall

  1. We use OSI Quad Max sealant which is designed for exterior use and won’t fade, crack or breakdown over time
  2. Install the window further into the pocket
  3. Installing further allows us to screw directly into the framing/studs so we hit them every time - no guesswork involved
  4. Then we move inside and inject expanding spray foam around the window which will maximize energy efficiency and allow the home to shift and settle without messing up the windows
  5. Then we finish it off by using OSI Quad Max inside to seal the interior. Nice finished product inside, nice finished product outside giving it an elegant, upscale look with the curb appeal you are looking for
