what is the purpose of the change theme in Prince2
to identify, assess and control any potential and approved changes to baselines.
Note: Baseline = reference levels against which an entity is monitored and controlled
what is defined as an issue
anything that happens during a project which, unless resolved, will result in a change to a baselined product, plan or performance target, including time, cost, scope, quality, risk and benefits
describe the 3 types of issues
- A request for change: a proposal to change a baseline
- An off-specification: something that should be provided but is currently not being provided or is forecast not to be provided
- A problem or concern: which is any other matter that requires the Project Manager to either resolve or escalate to the Project Board for a decision or action
which stage of a project are the controls for addressing change and issues defined and documented in the change control approach
during the initiation stage
what is documented in the change control approach
- the procedure for change control and issue management
- specify the roles and responsibilities for change control and issue management
- Records, timing of activities, assessment scales etc

what is the change authority
the responsibility for agreeing to implement a change
what is the change budget
the method of funding for changes
can authority be given to Project managers to make decisions about changes?
yes - limited authority can be given by the project board to the project manager for day to day changes
Note: the project board normally make decisions about changes
what is the configuration item
records document information about a product such as its status, version and variants of each configuration item and the relationship between them
what is a product status account
describes the state of all products within a set of limits
for example: a stage, the whole project, a particular product or a set of products
what is the purpose of the daily log
used to record, amongst other things, problems or concerns that the Project Manager can manage informally
what is the purpose of the issue report
used when an issue requires formal consideration.
An issue report is created and documented in the issue register
what must a Prince2 project have as a minimum in regards to the change control approach
must define its change control approach covering:
- How issues are identified and managed
- Assessing whether issues have a material impact on the project’s business justification
- It should also include the roles and responsibilities for change control
two important products are required and these are the issue register and the change control approach
