The Working Memory Model (WMM) AO3 Flashcards
1
Q
What are the strengths of WMM?
A
- it’s supported by other studies (KF case study and the Dual Task Technique)
- has real life application as it is suggested by Baddeley that the PL affects the developement of reading skills so it may be not fully operant in dyslexic children
2
Q
Descibe the Dual Task Technique.
A
- they asked participants to complete multiple different types of memory tasks at the same time
- the participants struggled to complete tasks thayt were both acoustic or verbal but found it easier if the tasks where different
- this supports the idea of there being subsystems as it showed that we can perform more than one task together if they aren’t apart of the same subsystems
3
Q
Describe the KF case study.
A
- KF couldn’t remember info said to him (verbal info) but could remember info given visually
- this suggests that STM is stored in different plces (subsystems)
4
Q
What are the limitations of WMM?
A
- the most important part of the system’s (CE) nature is extremely vague
- KF is a case study so it may not be applicable to everyone
- KF had a brain injury so his issues with verbal processing and not visual could be due to that and could cause issues with paying attention which would also affect results of the case study
