The Working Memory Model (WMM) AO1 Flashcards
1
Q
Who made the WMM?
A
Baddeley and Hitch
2
Q
What is the WMM?
A
several subsystems that act an alternative visual representation of MSM’s STM store that is far more complex
3
Q
What are the components of WMM?
A
- Phonological Loop
- Centrak Exclusive
- Visuo-special Sketchpad
- Episodic Buffer
4
Q
Describe the Phonological Loop
A
- a slave system
- deals with auditory information
- mainly an acoustic store
- has a limited capacity of 2 seconds
- has two main purposes (phonological store and articulatory process)
phonological store = stores info you hear
articulatory store= allows maintenance rehearsal
5
Q
Describe Central Exclusive
A
- it processes information of all the sensory stores
- directs information to slave systems
- limited capacity
5
Q
Desbribe the VSS.
A
- it deals which what info looks like and layed out in the brain
- it is sub divided into visual cache and inner scribe
6
Q
What does visual cache do?
A
store visual material about form and colour
7
Q
What does an inner scribe do?
A
handles spatial relationships allowing people to interact successfully with their environment
8
Q
Describe the episodic buffer.
A
- the thirst slave system added by Baddeley
- links info across the other slave systems
- acts as an extra storage space for visual and acoustic information
