• Beardsley used a brain scan which showed that the prefrontal cortex is active during STM tasks but not LTM task
• Squire used a brain scan and found that the hippocampus is active when LTM is engaged

shows that memory is stored in different places as MSM suggests

What are the limitation of MSM?

• the model is overly simplistsic as it doesn’t consider the types of LTMs (that Tulving suggested)
• Craik and Lockheart suggested that shallow processing can lead to LTM formation if there is semantic significance which shows that rehearsal may not be as important as suggsted because you can remember without it
