The French were overthrown in Indochina and a corrupt government was put in place, NV became Communist and attacked SV

When and why was Conscription put in place?
In 1964 because not enough people were willing to go
How did Conscription work?
Every 20 year old man was in the ballot and it was a birthday ballot- if your DOB was selected you had to go
What were reasons for being exempt from Conscription?
Medical reasons- disability
Students and apprentices could postpone their service
Conscientious objectors- legal pacifist
Serious criminal records
Why was the Vietnam War called the Television War?
It was the first war that was broadcast on news channels and you could see actual footage of
What was the anti-war movement?
People who were against the war such as the SOS (Save Our Sons) movement
What were the conditions of the Vietnam War?
Dense thick elephant grass and jungle- low visibility
Monsoonal rain- communication difficult and lots of mud
Land mines everywhere
How was the Vietnam War fought?
As a guerilla war- sneak attacks and no distinct battle lines
How where helicopters used?
For evacuations and for dropping off supplies because they were easier to land than planes
