There was an increase in modern technology in Europe

In Britain
Why did it start in Britain?
Britain had less political oppression and censorship due to the British Civil War
What natural resources did Britain have access to?
Coal, Iron and Steam
What was coal used for?
Used for fuel and fire for machines etc
What was iron used for?
Building things e.g railways, bridges etc
What was steam used for?
Transportation- steam powered trains and also factory power
What are the problems with Absolute Monarchy?
- People don’t have a say
- Government isn’t representative of the people
- Limitation places on freedom of thought
- Less progression of new ideas
What new empires were there?
British, German, Spanish, French, Dutch etc
What percentage of the world was colonised by Europeans?
Around 80%
What were the push and pull factors involved in migration?
Pull- in search of land and gold
Push- poverty and famine
What was the forced movement of people’s?
Slaves from Africa were sent to America and convicts from England were sent to Australia
What new industries were there?
- Textiles Industry
- Manufacturing Industry
- Transport Industry
Why did the Industrial Revolution start?
Because of urbanisation and population growth and the demand for new resources.

Mass production, decreased labour costs and easy transportation (trains)
