What are its three main functions
Distensible fibromuscular tube which extends posterosuperiorly. It is an organ of the female reproductive system
Sexual intercourse
Childbirth
Menstruation
What other organs have relations to the vagina
Anterior- bladder and urethra
Posterior- Rectouterine pouch, rectum and anal canal
Lateral- ureters and levator ani muscle
Superior-uterus
What two structures lie at either end of the vagina?
Anterior fornix- access to vesico-uterine pouch
Posterior fornix- access to recto-uterine pouch
Describe the hitsology of the vagina (internal to external)
Stratified squamous epithelium
Elastic lamina propria
Fibromuscular layer- circular and longitudinal layer
Adventitia
What is the arterial supply of the vagina?

Vaginal venous plexus
Superior- drains into external iliac nodes
Middle-drains into external iliac nodes
