Pelvic Gurdle Flashcards
What comprises the pelvic girdle?
Two hip bones, sacrum and cocccyx
What four articulations does the pelvic girdle make within the pelvis?
Sacriliac joints
Sacrococcygeal symphysis
Pubic symphysis
What are the functions of the pelvis
Transfer weight- upper axial skeleton to lower skeleto
Provides attachment- for a number of muscles and ligaments used in locomotion.
Contains and protects-abdominopelvic and pelvic viscera
What are the two divisions of the pelvis?
What is the border of the two known as?
Greater pelvis (False pelvis) located superiorly, provides support of abdominal viscera. Lesser pelvis (true pelvis)- contains pelvic cavity and pelvic viscera
What are the borders of the pelvic inlet?
Posterior- sacral promonotory
Lateral- arcuate line on the inner surface of the ilium and the pectineal line of the superior pubic ramus
Anterior- pubic symphysis
What are the borders of the pelvic outlet?
Posterior- tip of occyx
Lateral- ischial tuberosities and the inferior margin of the saccrotuberous ligament
Anterior- pubic arch
What is involved in a gynaecoid pelvis?
Female pelvis Wider and broader Oval inlet shape Less prominent ischial spines Greater angled sub pubic arch Less pronounced sacrum
What is involved in an android pelvis?
Male pelvis
long and narrow
Heart shaped inlet (mickey mouse)
Low sub pubic arch (less than 80 degrees)
