What is the scrotum?
Fibromuscular cutaneous sac located between the penis adn the anus. It is dual chambered forming an expansion of the perineum.
What is contained within the scrotum?
Three major paired structures:
Testis- sperm production
Epididymis- storage reservoir for sperm
Spermatic cord- collection of muscle fibres, vessels nerves and ducts that run to and from testes
What are other important structures within the scrotum?
Scrotal septum- divides sides
Cremaster muscles- raise and lower scrotum
Dartos msucles- wrinkle skin to preserve heat
What is the arterial supply of the scrotum?
What is the venous drainage of the scrotum?
Recieves supply from the anterior and posterior scrotal arteries
scrotal veins, drain into internal pudendal artery
What nerves innervate the scrotum?
What lymphatics drain the scrotum
Anterior and anterolateral aspect- anterior scrotal nerves derived from the genital branch of genitofemoral nerve and ilioinguinal nerve
Posterior aspect- posterior scrotal nerves, bracnhes of pudendal and posterior femoral cutaneous nerve
Superficial inguinal nodes
