Why was Hoover’s unpopularity a bit unfair?
There’d never been a crisis on this scale before and Hoover’s Government were ill-prepared to deal with it.

What was the Veterans’ Bonus March of 1931?
Disabled soldiers that had served in World War One who were being paid an annual pension were due to be paid a bonus sum in 1945.
20,000 of these soldiers marched and squatted outside the White House in 1931. They demanded that this payment be made to them immediately because of the Depression.
Hoover feared that there’d be violence so he called Lieutenant McCarthy and had the army forcibly remove them.
2 babies died from the tear gas that was used on the soldiers and many were injured.
